Leroy

Starting in 1966, Madame Leroy organized at her home, the Domaine d’Auvenay, prestigious wine tastings with the most well-known wine writers, critics, sommeliers and restaurant owners. At this time, in the late 1960s, this tradition was unusual and completely unique. Unfortunately, through the years it became more and more difficult to find growers with wines that met the strict standards worthy of the Maison Leroy label. Therefore, Lalou BIZE-LEROY, made the decision to expand Maison Leroy’s own vineyards. In 1988 she founded Domaine Leroy by purchasing, for Leroy, the estates of Charles Noellat at Vosne-Romanée and of Philippe-Rémy at Gevrey-Chambertin. In total Domaine Leroy now has 21 hectares, 99 ares, 66 centiares.

Leroy Corton-Charlemagne

Set plots of land situated in the North of the Coast of Beaune on a geology very different from “Montrachet”. He is produced at once on the municipalities of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. This big country of Burgundy owes its reputation to emperor Charlemagne who gives the order to plant in vineyard the big part of its domain to donate it in 775 in the Abbey of Saulieu. The wine of Corton-Charlemagne is of a very big complexity, owed essentially to the origins.

Leroy Corton-Renardes

Truly an exceptional young Corton. Classic Leroy perfume dominates the nose with mostly black cherry aromas. Same black cherry flavors come through on the palate with bold, meaty spices. Fruit is incredibly bright and racy, this is already nicely balanced and gorgeous from start through long finish.

Leroy Richebourg

Spicy and floral, just one notch below the RSV just tasted. Powerful fruit shows great combination of black and red fruit with great spice balanced in seamlessly.

Leroy Romanée-Saint-Vivant

Floral and spicy from the start. Glorious and alluring aromatics. Lots of layers of flavors unfold showing nuanced flavors of fruit and spice evolving even in just the few minutes I could enjoy this wine from barrel.

Leroy Clos de Vougeot

Powerful black fruit on the nose, lots of spice. The most masculine wine in the Leroy 2009 lineup. Probably also the most noticeable tannins today. Black cherry and blackberry flavors take charge, with a dense, powerful and long finish.

Leroy Musigny

Starts amazingly floral with great spice support and red fruit. Fruit evolves on palate toward balance of red cherry and black cherry, along with amazing spice. Completely balanced already out of barrel. Finish shows explosive and powerful fruit that is completely alluring. It is a rare treat to ever have Leroy Musigny and standing next to the two barrels produced in 2009 makes it easy to understand why it is so hard to find this wine. Exceptional.

Leroy Clos de la Roche

Again floral and spicy to start. Lots of black fruit on the nose, then evolving towards a combination of red and black on palate, that really shows great power on the finish. Showing some of the best minerality in the Leroy 2009 lineup today.

Leroy Chambertin

Starts with lots of Asian spice of black fruit aromas. Same dark fruit on palate, showing lots of power and density, a bit less finesse.

Leroy Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

Pretty dark red in colour. Concentrated Leroy floral nose right from the start, with slight forest floor and spices. Medium plus palate that is still young but transparent, with good energy and decent acidity in the back. Medium to long finish.

Leroy Gevrey Chambertin

A distinctly cool and reserved yet elegant nose of red berry, plum, violets, spice and pure dark cherry aromas slides gracefully and seamlessly into naturally sweet, precise, mineral-driven and mouth filling flavors underpinned by buried tannins and… Burghound.
